OUR 17TH SEASON BEGINS...
"TIN PAN ALLEY "
From ragtime to doo wop, from Broadway to bebop, the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies’ all-new 17th season will celebrate the Golden Age of American popular music. Porter, Berlin and Gershwin (of course!), but that’s only the beginning. Entitled Tin Pan Alley—after the New York street where new songs were published and then spread around the globe—the new Follies will showcase the songs you played while you worked, loved, went to war and came home again, but most of all danced. And all performed by a cast old enough to remember The Way It Really Was! (And in response to your request, Tin Pan Alley will feature a number of songs from the 1950s, when a backbeat replaced syncopation as the new “cool” sound.)
But if ain’t broke—as the saying goes—why fix it? The new Follies will still afford longtime fans what they return to see year after year: our world-famous line of Long-Legged Lovelies and Follies Gentleman (all 59 to 84 years young!), and, of course, that elegant and shameless “Follies Man” himself, impresario and master of ceremonies Riff Markowitz.
Add classic vaudeville acts and a line up of four world-famous guest stars—Kaye Ballard, The Four Aces, Melba Moore and Anna Maria Alberghetti—and there’s no doubt about it: Follies 17 will be the most amazing, the most moving, the most inspiring… In short, the best Follies ever!
Vaudeville Tonight!
The Follies presents the best variety acts from around the world: the “Father of Impressions,” Mr. Babe Pier, and MORE DOGS: the cuddly canine cut-ups of Joanne Wilson’s Wonder Dogs of America.
The Follies Man
Follies impresario and emcee Riff Markowitz hasn’t missed a performance in 16 years and he isn’t likely to start now! And that’s fortunate because it wouldn’t be a Follies without Markowitz’s unique blend of cutting-edge satire and Old World savoir faire. As always, the Follies Man is your guide through the unique realm that is “Follies Land.”
If you wonder how the Follies could possibly top its sixteenth edition,
(as they used to say in vaudeville) "You ain't seen nothin' yet!"
